When the journey feels like it’s leading you nowhere…

Have you ever felt that although you have spent years learning and honing your craft and expertise as a coach that you really know very little at all? We all face this challenge and question at one time or another. It can result in a crisis of confidence, a reevaluation of our work, and a sense of being slightly off balance or going in circles. Good news: this is exactly where we need to be! Lately we’ve been noticing this sense of questioning the depth of our abilities and finding ourselves feeling a little off our game. And so we began to look at what’s going on and where those feelings are coming from. We found something interesting in our exploration. We noticed that this happens when we are challenging [...]

What questions are you asking in 2018?

You may have a personal question about a relationship that is meaningful to you, or maybe a philosophical question about your life’s path,  or a question about where you are going as a coach and how you would like to grow this year. One thing we know as coaches and coach trainers, is that each of us has our own answers.  And if you are able to ask yourself a powerful question, one that requires you to dig deep for an answer, then the answers you receive will be coming from your core set of values, beliefs, and desires. Are You Jumping into the Soup with Your Clients?

We’ve all had clients who seem to need extra support. We may find them swimming in a bowl of soup full of challenges, concerns and questions. Most often, we sit on the edge of the bowl using our coaching skills to help them navigate as they swim. But sometimes we might lose our balance and fall into the soup with them. In fact, some clients may even hope that we end up in the soup – it can be lonely in there. But we know that we are most helpful to our clients when we remain on the edge where we can see from a larger vantage point and help our clients expand their awareness also. So what makes us fall in the soup? Sometimes we fall in because we [...]

When Renewing Your Credential becomes something to check off your list…

When Renewing Your Credential becomes something to check off your list, it may be time to go back to basics As credentialed coaches, every 3 years we experience the same challenge–how to get those CCEUs and/or Mentoring that we need to renew our ICF Credentials. It’s easy to fall into the trap of missing the forest for the trees when you are adding up 1.25 + 1.75 + 1.5 hours, and easy to get pulled into the minutiae of the process. But what’s it all about in the big picture? How can we utilize the renewal requirements to give our coaching ability a boost and get back [...]

5 Things to Re-Energize Yourself as a Coach This Summer

Summer offers an opportunity to refresh, renew and relax. It’s so important to take that time, personally and professionally, in order to stay fresh as a coach and also to maintain balance as a person. Sometimes, coaches can get a little worn out or burned out because of the following reasons: Isolation–We are working on our own – possibly from a home office. And so we are self-generating most of our output. Self-Care–At times, we may give more than we really have in our reserves and neglect self-care. Boundaries–Because of the flexibility that coaching offers, sometimes we don’t set good enough boundaries about our time and can find ourselves returning emails at 11pm on a regular basis. Let’s take the opportunity that summer provides to fill up our tanks and [...]
